Trail Life Overview

The national Trail Life USA organization is a Christian adventure, character, and leadership program for young men. The K-12 program centers on outdoor experiences that build a young man’s skills and allow him to grow on a personal level and as a role model and leader for his peers. Living the Trail Life is a journey established on timeless values derived from the Bible. All boys ages 5 through 17 are welcome irrespective of religion, race, national origin, or socioeconomic status. We welcome boys whose parents are seeking a faith-based outdoor adventure program that places an emphasis on character development, leadership, and moral purity, and who aspire to live in accordance with the values expressed in the Trail Life Motto (Walk Worthy) and Oath:

On my honor, I will do my best
To serve God and my country;
To respect authority;
To be a good steward of creation;
And to treat others as I want to be treated.

The Trail Life motto is "Walk Worthy" derived from Colossians 1:10:

“… so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, …”

Adult Participation and Leadership

Note: in the case of Foxes, adult participation is required due to the young nature of the Trailmen (Kindergarten - 1st grade). Trailmen ages Kindergarten through 6th grade are required to have a parent physically on site during the meetings.

The most basic recognized role is that of a "registered adult." Please consider helping us by requesting to register as an adult. This role simply requires you to complete the registration process as an adult and make yourself available to support your son's patrol. There is no obligation to serve beyond assisting the patrol. This simple registration allows you to help us meet our mandated ratio of registered leaders to Trailmen. Trail Life USA requires:

  • Two registered adult-leaders per unit of boys (for child-protection purposes).
  • A ratio of 1:4 for K-1st grade (registered leaders to trailmen).
  • A ratio of 1:8 for 2nd-3rd grade.
  • A ratio of 1:10 for 4th-12th grade.

Other opportunities exist to serve in direct-contact roles as the Trail Guide, Ranger, Trailmaster or Advisor. These leaders oversee the operation of specific age-level groups. They help plan activities, coordinate logistics and have many opportunities to coach and mentor Trailmen.

There are also more senior leadership roles that make up the "Troop Committee" which serves as the core leadership team. There are many ways to serve the committee and just a few roles include Chaplain, Treasurer, Secretary and Membership Chair.

American Heritage Girls

Overview
Sarasota Christian Church has chartered a new ministry for the 2026-2027 year: American Heritage Girls Troop FL2923. American Heritage Girls (AHG) is a Christ-centered character and leadership development program for girls ages 5 through 18. The program is designed to build women of integrity through faith, service, leadership, outdoor adventure, and meaningful experiences that encourage girls to grow in their relationship with Christ while developing confidence, character, and life skills.

American Heritage Girls is dedicated to the mission of building women of integrity through service to God, family, community, and country. Through an all-girl environment, girls are encouraged to discover their God-given gifts and purpose while learning to lead, serve others, develop friendships, and navigate life with confidence and compassion.

All biological girls ages 5 through 18, regardless of color, race, national origin, or socioeconomic status, who agree to live according to the standards of the AHG Oath and AHG Creed are invited to be members of American Heritage Girls.

BUILDING WOMEN OF INTEGRITY
Our troop seeks to mentor girls who know their worth and identity in Christ—understanding that they are deeply loved, cherished, uniquely created, talented, and sacred in the eyes of God. We desire for each girl to recognize the gifts and purpose God has given her and confidently use those gifts to make a difference in the world.
Through a growing relationship with Jesus and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we want our girls to stand firm in God’s truth, walk boldly in their faith, and live with confidence in who God created them to be.

Parent & Adult Participation and Leadership
AHG does not have a parent-participation requirement based on a girl's Program Level. However, we strongly encourage mothers, grandmothers, and guardians to consider becoming a Registered Adult Member and serving alongside our girls.

The most basic recognized adult role is that of a Registered Adult Member. This role requires completing the adult registration process, paying the annual national membership fee, consenting to a background check, and completing required online safety training. Registered Adult Members help support our girls and make it possible for our troop to provide safe, meaningful, and engaging experiences throughout the year.

Any adult who attends or participates in troop meetings or activities must be a Registered Adult Member of American Heritage Girls.
AHG Troops are required to maintain appropriate girl-to-adult ratios as well as two-deep leadership at all times. AHG Troop FL2923 must maintain the following ratios:

Two registered adult leaders per unit of girls (for child-protection purposes)
A ratio of 1:6 for Pathfinders & Tenderhearts
A ratio of 1:8 for Explorers
A ratio of 1:10 for Pioneers
A ratio of 1:12 for Patriots

This is one of the many reasons adult participation is so important to the success of our troop! Our Registered Adult Members not only help us meet these important safety requirements, but also make it possible to offer meaningful, engaging experiences for girls at every Program Level. Other opportunities exist to serve in direct-contact leadership and volunteer roles within the troop. These adults help plan activities, coordinate logistics, support badge work, and have many opportunities to encourage, mentor, and walk alongside our girls as they grow in faith, character, leadership, and service.

AHG 26-27 Troop Dues
Troop Dues: $100 per girl. Troop dues help cover the cost of at least 3 badges per girl, patches as determined by the Troop Board, program supplies, activities, troop operating expenses, and the annual charter renewal. Families may have additional costs throughout the year for camping, special events, and certain at-home badge work or patches.



Note that this only covers local troop dues. All members must also pay the $43/year national membership fee directly to American Heritage Girls through the AHG registration process. If you are a new troop member, we will contact you and provide the information needed to complete national registration.



Refund Policy: Refund requests must be submitted to the Troop Coordinator/Troop Board. Refunds will be considered on a case-by-case basis based on whether troop or program expenses have already been incurred.



AHG GIRL INFORMATION



You can register your daughter(s) with our troop through the registration process at AHGfamily.com. AHG Program Level placement is determined by a girl's age as of September 30, not her grade level.



American Heritage Girls places girls by age following the below structure:



Pathfinder: 5 years old by September 30

Tenderheart: 6–8 years old by September 30

Explorer: 9–11 years old by September 30

Pioneer: 12–13 years old by September 30

Patriot: 14–17 years old by September 30

Young Adult Member: 18–20+ years old

If your daughter does not exactly meet these age requirements or you are unsure which Program Level is the appropriate placement, please register her in the closest match and the Troop will contact you about placement.



PARENT & ADULT PARTICIPATION:
